Pregnancy Test Accuracy

Which Tests Are The Best?

Are you trying to conceive & worried about which test to use? If so, you are not alone. Pregnancy Test Accuracy is something many women worry about when they are planning their family. You don't want to waste your money on a test that isn't going to work properly, and you most importantly do not want to get your hopes up with a false positive. So how accurate are they?

Home pregnancy tests are quite accurate. Well...I should say "certain home pregnancy tests are quite accurate". There are some things you want to look for when picking your test brand.

1.) Avoid blue dye tests at all costs - far too many women have reported false positives with blue dye tests. Blue dyes are the ones like E.P.T. (Error Proof Test), Target brand blue dye, etc. The box will have a picture of the test and the dye color, so look for it and be careful. I will mention that I personally have never had an issue with them, and got my first positive test with my first baby using E.P.T.

2.) If you are going to test early, pick a test that is specially for testing early, and know the tests sensitivity. - Some tests have a sensitivity of 25 (hCG), while others have a sensitivity of 50. That is a huge difference when testing before your period is due. If the baby implants late, you won't get a positive result until you are probably due anyways. So don't get your hopes crushed if you test early, and it is negative.

3.) Most women will not get a positive pregnancy test before their period is due. Many women who test early never actually see 2 lines until 12 DPO (days past ovulation) - 14 DPO, and some even later then that. This depends on the pregnancy test accuracy and level of sensitivity.

4.) There are only 3 brands of tests that I know of that are sensitive enough to test 6 DPO - 11 DPO and get fairly accurate results. They are Early-Pregnancy-Tests.com , First Response Early Result (the new 6 Days Sooner), and Wondfo . My favorites are Early-Pregnancy-Tests.com and Wondfo. I have not been impressed with First Response's new test. They have been coming out of the wrapper with 2 lines visible on them. And once they are used, even if they are negative, the second line is visible, but appears to be gray or colorless. This can be heartbreaking for a woman who is trying to conceive & thinks she finally got a positive result. I don't really recommend this brand, but they have really nice dark lines if you are really pregnant and do test early and the pregnancy test accuracy is quite good, except for the gray lines.

The sensitivity is 6 hCG for those, and 10-25 hCG for the other two. Early-Pregnancy-Tests.com and Wondfo are MUCH MUCH cheaper. You can get a handful of tests for a few dollars, whereas the FRER's are usually about $14 for a 2 pack.

If you have used a pregnancy test and feel confident with your choice, you may be wondering not about pregnancy test accuracy, but about whether or not you got a positive or negative result.
