Ovulation Tests - Is it positive?

Whether you have been using
ovulation tests
for months now, or are just starting, you may be confused when it comes to interpreting the results. OPK's are not like pregnancy tests. They test for a different hormone and they show 2 lines nearly every day of a woman's cycle...so having 2 lines doesn't mean you are ovulating necessarily.
Facts About OPK's
FACT #1 - Most ovulation tests say to interpret the results within 10 minutes. Listen to this. Some tests take the full 10 minutes to show the true color of the test line. You may think at 5 minutes you aren't quite there yet, but at the 10 minute mark you will know for sure if you are at your LH surge.
FACT #2 - OPK's test for luteinizing hormone which is present in a woman's urine during ovulation (24-48 hours prior to, and during). Some women also get an LH surge right before their period is due.
FACT #3 - The tests can sometimes work as HPT's (or home pregnancy tests). Some ovulation tests do pick up the hormone known as hCG which is the pregnancy hormone.
FACT #4 - With all tests, the test line must be either as dark or darker then the control line in order for the test to be positive. If you are using the digital smiley face tests, then you'll know when you get a smiley face. :-)
FACT #5 - When trying to conceive, you should use the tests twice a day when you are getting close to the time you think you normally ovulate. This is because some women have very short LH surges, and if you are only testing once per day, you may miss it.
FACT #6 - You never want to test in the morning, but always in the afternoon or evening. And you want to test at the same time everyday to get the most accurate results. The best time of day is after lunch, like around 1-3 pm. Testing in the morning is not recommended because the amount of LH in the woman's body is always higher in the morning, and could give inaccurate results.

The progression of ovulation tests above shows a positive test on CD15. This means she is ovulating, or will be ovulating within 24-48 hours. The other tests are negative and show some lead in lines.
Women, who have been trying to conceive for months with no success, should seriously consider adding
Preseed
lubricant to their baby making process. Preseed is the only sperm friendly lubricant that is pH balanced to allow sperm to travel to the egg. Any other lubricant you may be using could actually be killing the sperm, thus causing unwanted fertility issues.
Another recommendation is to chart.

Charting
is a great way to track ovulation and determine if a pregnancy may have occurred.
And thirdly we highly recommend using
OvaCue Fertility Monitor
. This FDA approved tool, helps to pinpoint your most fertile time to increase your chances of becoming pregnant. Many women have had great success with this product. It helps you to keep your data organized and will tell you, by using saliva, if you are ovulating and when you should have sex to increase your odds of conceiving.
