False Positive Pregnancy Test ???

How do I know if I have one?

bad evap line

False positive pregnancy tests... how common are they?

Luckily for us POAS-aholics, they are not very common. A true false is when a second line appears on a test, when the woman is not pregnant. With modern technology we are now able to detect if a woman is pregnant, well before a period is missed. There are numerous ways of testing, such as:

A beta blood test

A home pregnancy test (urine test)

Not every woman will produce enough hCG in her body before the missed period to be able to test early with a home pregnancy test, but some do. False positives are so rare because the antibody strip on the test that the dye passes over, will ONLY turn color if there is enough hCG in the woman's body to "activate" the strip. Meaning...if the sensitivity of the test is 20 hCG mIU/ml, then there has to be at least 20 mIU/ml to make the dye adhere to the strip. For a positive reading to occur when the woman is NOT pregnant, is very rare, and would be a faulty test.

Of course saying a F.P. is rare is kind of a lame statement, without saying that it is rare with a "reliable test". There are hundreds of tests out there that you can use, but not all tests are created equal. We have a few we have named The Best Home Pregnancy Test (s). The link is below.

If False Positives are Rare...Why Did I get 2 Lines and Then Get My Period?

The reality is, is that if you used a good quality pregnancy test (most are 99.9% accurate), then chances are good that if you got a positive test, within the time limit, that you were pregnant, and miscarried.

The unfortunate facts are that if you are a healthy woman of childbearing age, your chances of having a miscarriage are 10-25%. Of those miscarriages, most (50-75%) are chemical pregnancies. This is when the baby miscarries shortly after implantation occurs.

In cases like this, many times the woman does not even know she is pregnant. She may still get her period the day it is due. If she never tested, she never would have known.
