Early Pregnancy Tests

Using early pregnancy tests can be wonderful for women who are actively trying to conceive. They allow you to find out if you are indeed pregnant days before your expected period is due. Some tests are even as sensitive enough to tell you the day your baby implants, which is usually around 6-7 DPO (days past ovulation). Because not every test is the same, and you can get some very confusing answers, we have compiled a collage of pictures of different tests and a description to let you know:

Did You Know??????

OPK's will look positive when a woman is pregnant?!?!?!?

Yes it is true. Why? Because some ovulation tests are designed to pick up hCG as well as LH. I know from personal experience that this is true, and you can see a picture of this at the bottom of the page.

Can a pregnancy test tell me if I'm ovulating?

*NO*. This only works one way. Early pregnancy tests ONLY detects hCG, while an OPK will sometimes detect LH & hCG too.

What Are Evaporation Lines?

Evaporation lines on pregnancy tests are lines that appear after the specified time in which a true positive pregnancy test would be confirmed. They sometimes look very much like a positive, but they are gray or purple in color, not pink or blue (depending on the test you have). This is why it is very important to read the instructions carefully when performing a test.

Sometimes instead of an early pregnancy test giving you an evaporation line, you may see the indent line or a wet line. Again these lines sometimes can be dark enough to make you think they are positive, but they are not. The color and time frame in which the line appears is the only way to tell. When in doubt, go to your doctor for blood work, or wait 48 hours and retest.
