When Did I Conceive?

If you are pregnant and wondering "when did I conceive?", you are not alone. Unfortunately most women do not know the exact day they got pregnant, but there is a very easy way to accurately guess.

Here is an example:

"My last period was on October 13, 2009. My period was due on November 12, and I got a positive pregnancy test that day. When did I conceive?"

- This woman has a 31 day cycle. On CD 31 she found out she was pregnant. Most women ovulate 14 days before their next period is due. That would mean if you counted backwards 14 days from the day she got a positive test, she would have ovulated on October 29.

Why Did My Ultrasound Say My Baby Is Measuring Small?

It seems that doctors are using early ultrasounds more and more to determine the due date of a woman's baby. Ultrasounds performed before 12 weeks are very accurate in answering the question "when did I conceive?" If you had an u/s done and it is putting your E.D.D. back a few days from when you think it should be according to your LMP (last menstrual period) do not be worried. This is very normal. The u/s is just a "guess" as to when the EDD is, and it can be off by a week in either direction.

Another reason why not to be concerned is because a woman doesn't always ovulate on the same cycle day every month. That means one month you may ovulate on CD 16, and the next month not until CD 18. Reasons for this include, stress, hormones, etc.

If your doctor told you your due date is a few days different then when you think it should be. Do not worry. If anything, be glad (especially if they moved it back a few days). That just gives you a few more days to bake your baby before they talk of induction, if you go late.
