The Best Pregnancy Tests

twins, am i pregnant

Searching for the best pregnancy tests ?

When picking out the type of pregnancy test you are going to use, while trying to conceive, there are a few things you must keep in mind.

1.) Is it a blue dye test or a pink dye test?

2.) Is my period late, or am I testing early?

3.) How much money do I want to spend?

Pregnancy tests are not all created equal. Some are quite expensive and offer poor results, while others are quite cheap and offer very accurate results. While most boast at being 99.9% accurate, that doesn't mean that your interpretation of the test will be.

Is this test positive, negative, or an evaporation line?

equate evap line, evaporation line

This is an example of a bad evaporation line. The woman who took this test was not pregnant, and had a blood test to confirm.

Knowing what to look for in a test.

1.) Is it a blue dye test or a pink dye test?

This is a very important question for you to ask yourself before purchasing a pregnancy test because the blue dye tests have a very bad track record for giving false positives. They are, for whatever reason, more likely to have an evaporation line, or even a line show up within the time limit that looks positive, even if the woman is not pregnant.

2.) Is my period late, or am I testing early?

If your period is late, then any pregnancy test will do. But if you are testing a few days before your period is expected to arrive, then you will want to carefully consider which test you use. Not all tests are sensitive enough to allow you to test early.

To test early you need a test that has a sensitivity of 6 hCG - 10 hCG as the mininum hCG the test can pick up. If you go with a test with a minimum hCG of 20, you will most likely get a negative result until after your period is late. This is why sensitivity is so important.

A woman will not have hCG present in her urine until at least 6 DPO (days past ovulation) because that is typically when the baby implants into her uterus and the pregnancy can then be detected. Some tests are able to detect the very day the baby implants. But that also varies from pregnancy to preganncy, and from woman to woman.

3.) How much money do I want to spend?

Tests such as Answer and First Response are slightly more expensive pregnancy tests...however, they are not the most accurate. Tests that cost even less, like Early Pregnancy Tests, and Dollar Tree, have actually had greater results.
